Königsallee — a shopping guide for people who like boutiques

Königsallee is Düsseldorf's answer to the Champs-Élysées, except that water runs down the middle of it. More precisely, the old city moat, lined with plane trees, with a boulevard on either side. The western side is banks and offices, the eastern side is shopping. We would suggest the eastern side, taken slowly.

What is worth your time on the Kö

• Kö-Bogen I (Daniel Libeskind) — an architectural landmark, with the Apple Store and Breuninger.
• Kö-Bogen II — the green arc carrying the largest facade planting in Europe.
• Sevens at the southern end — the only shopping centre here that genuinely deserves the word architecture.
• Hotel Kö59 — even if you are not staying, have a drink at the bar.
• Trinkhalle Kö — the oldest kiosk in Düsseldorf, ideal for a closing Altbier.

The big names are what you would expect (Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermès), but the interesting addresses are the small ones: Anita Hass by the Hofgarten, a local designer concept, and Andreas Murkudis, rare in Düsseldorf but worth catching as a pop-up. Ask at our reception what is currently open.
