Japan Day Düsseldorf — the largest Japan Day outside Japan

Düsseldorf has the third largest Japanese community in Europe. Once a year the city celebrates it with a Japan Day: cosplay, anime, sushi and fireworks, with 800,000 visitors.
Japan Day always falls on a Saturday in May or June. In 2026 it is 23 May. Eight hundred thousand visitors, J-pop concerts, cosplay competitions, and Düsseldorf's largest fireworks display over the Rhine in the evening. The city has the third largest Japanese community in Europe, around 6,500 people, and 14 Japanese schools, which is where the authenticity comes from.
Where to eat Japanese
Immermannstraße, between the main station and the Hofgarten, is Little Tokyo: Naniwa for ramen, Takumi for sushi, Yabase for bento. The Japan Day market on Burgplatz has the street food.
